Description
Put your students in the shoes of a colonist journeying to the New World!
This warm up activity has students imagine what it would be like to travel to the New World for the first time. Students will utilize background knowledge about the New World and the failed colony of Roanoke to answer the question prompt.
In my class, I had students write independently for 3-4 minutes, share with a partner for 1 minute, and then we had a 3-5 minute class discussion. This is a little longer than a typical warm up activity, but it is an engaging activity that 'hooks' the students!
