Julius Caesar Primary Source Analysis

Students analyze a primary source account of Caesar crossing the Rubicon, an account of his assassination, answer 22 questions, and complete 2 creative tasks. Depending on your curriculum, students might need to do a small amount of research to complete the timeline. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--Explain the meaning of, "to keep Caesar at bay."
--Why was the decision Caesar had to make so monumental?
--Describe Caesar's train of thought when he and his troops were on the banks of the Rubicon.
--Why did the Senators believe their only choice was to assassinate Caesar?
--Explain why the 4th plan was the one that panned out.
--Summarize the section "The Attack' in no more than 6 sentences.
--Describe the symbolism of Caesar falling at the statue of Pompey.
--What do you think Caesar's final thoughts were?
