Description
Students delve into the lives of the main members of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, the Corps of Discovery, through a fact sorting activity. The lesson begins with an inquiry riddle as the class attempts to solve the puzzle together. Next, groups analyze and sort portraits, facts and quotes about the main members of the expedition. The class will then complete a reading about the crew while filing out a graphic organizer. Finally, the students participate in a gallery walk to add details before composing an article about the members. This writing piece is modeled after ESPN's article called The Six Things You Should Know . . . Each student will craft an article in which they highlight six things about the Corps of Discovery.
