Description
This listing features two crossword puzzles about the planets in our Solar System for a space science unit in a middle school earth science course. The crossword puzzle set focuses on cool facts and unique characteristics of the four terrestrial planets and the four gas giants. I excluded Pluto from the crossword series because the scientific community is not in agreement as to whether it should be classified as a planet.
The clues are on the same page as the crossword puzzle grid. I provided two answer keys. I also included a fifth page with two copies of a combined word bank for both puzzles in the event you need to offer it as an accommodation.
By completing this crossword puzzle series, students will answer questions that will help them distinguish the planets from one another such as:
· Which planet rotates so slow that its day-length is longer than its year?
· Which planet is dark blue with a featureless atmosphere?
· The atmosphere of the gas giants consists mainly of helium and what other gas?
· Which planet has the highest number of moons (19)?
