Description

Literary genres can be a very difficult area to teach, and yet, we are called upon to teach them all, often in isolation, and without explanation of how the different genres fit together, or what they mean. This Deck of Boom! Cards will guide students through a basic understanding of the most common poetic forms that they will be exposed to in school. Student-friendly definitions will help them understand the differences between sonnets and soliloquies, elegies and odes, the limerick and the haiku. They will have practice identifying the Forms, and determining the Rhyme Schemes. The deck contains 10 direct instruction/teaching cards, 1 instructional card, and 39 randomized Task/Action cards!

A NOTE ABOUT THE POETRY: Except where noted with an author's name on the card, all poetry is the original work of Matthew Forman, and all rights are reserved. Permission may be granted to access the full poems that excerpts are taken from by emailing me at elainmiddleschool@gmail.com or matthewf1214@gmail.com. All excerpts are from the manuscript "One Man: The (Partial) Journey of One Man's life, loves, and loss from Desert Shield into the 21st Century in Poetic Verse". Publishing History for individual poems available on request.
