Description
Students analyze 18 documents (12 text based and 6 visual), answer 18 historical context questions, complete a sorting chart, and write a DBQ essay to review Reconstruction. There are 12 essay prompts for students to choose from (one allows for the class or teacher to make one of their own). The answers are included where appropriate and the initial analysis part would be great for a sub! ***Some of the sourcing is generalized so that students have to place it in the historical context/event themselves.***
Sample questions include:
--Identify and explain the point of view depicted of the Freedman’s Bureau.
--What happened in 1877 that now, in 1883, is partly preventing black men from exercising their due suffrage?
--Upon which event might Holloway have expressed these sentiments?
--Describe the purpose of the image in Document 10 being published, and to what extent it reflects an accurate image of America at the time.
--Provide 3 examples of ways that Douglass says former slaves were not “quite free” in 1882.
--What does Stevens support? Rewrite this quote in your own words to demonstrate understanding.
--Would President Andrew Johnson have agreed with the sentiments of this excerpt, why or why not?
