INSPIReducation have produced this pack of materials to support the teaching of the areas within shape:
- Translate shapes using brackets e.g. (3, -4)
- Reflect shapes through the x and y axis
- Reflect shapes through a diagonal line
- Reflect shapes through 4 diagonal lines
- Rotate shapes about a point on the shape
- Rotate shapes about a point not on the shape (e.g. labelled point A)
- Enlarge given shapes using scaled factors
- Reduce shapes given scaled factors
- Complete unfinished 2D quadrilaterals using grids and knowledge of shape to support accuracy
Each objective is delivered within its own sheet or a range of questions. When we developed this for use in our classrooms, the project of "Moving and Changing Shapes" lasted for three weeks. The activities we produced challenged, supported and embedded the development of the skills the children needed in Grade 3, 4 and 5.
The resources are saved as PDF's and can be printed off immediately once downloaded, copied and used within your own classrooms.
