Description
Students will read and analyze an account of the Bolsheviks storming the Winter Palace in 1917 during the Russian Revolution by answering 14 questions. They will then read and analyze 7 excerpts from 7 points of view/time frames and answer 21 more questions. Time permitting, they will also analyze 4 images/political cartoons.
A teacher information page is included with ideas for implementation. The answers are included and this would be great for a sub!
Sample questions include:
--Explain the meaning of, "preying on people’s anti-Tsarist sentiments."
--What were Lenin's goals in coming back to Russia?
--Why did the looting stop when someone said it was the property of the People?
--Summarize the reason for requesting secret voting.
--Why might the Tsarina have referred to this as a “hooligan” movement?
--What crime were the revolutionaries at risk of committing?
--Citing evidence from the text, what type of foreign policy focus might a post-revolution Russia have and why?
--Is "revolutionary discipline" an oxymoron? Why or why not?
