Description
Why do students struggle so much with constructed response writing? Most of them do not understand that identifying text evidence alone is not the same thing as text analysis. They also need to be able to explain how the text evidence connects to their answer. So how do we teach this?
Use genre! When a student is identifying the genre of a passage, they are analyzing the text using predefined attributes. Once they have begun to master genre analysis, it is much easier to show them how to explain their analysis in writing using the ACED acronym.
The activities provided in this resource will guide both you and your students through this process. Worried about planning for either hybrid or remote instruction? No problem! For each activity, you have the choice of working with the NO-Prep printable option or the Google Slides™ resource. Each Google Slides™ resource includes a video that students can view for instructional purposes. (Note: This resource does not include passages. I recommend you use task cards or short stories for practice purposes.)
