Description
Welcome! This full-page interdisciplinary worksheet reinforces the definition of stresses that act upon the earth’s crust and the faults and the deformations that result. I assign it in my middle school earth science class. This activity may very well be challenging enough for use in a high school earth science course due to its interdisciplinary nature. Students need to be able to sort the subjects, verbs, adjectives, determiners, nouns, and conjunctions in order to arrive at a fluent sentence for each answer.
There are fourteen sets of jumbled-up words. The students’ mission is to unscramble the words to form a coherent sentence in the theme mentioned above.
The problems on the first page lead to shorter definitions under ten words. Problems on the second page are more challenging, where the sentences students will construct will be between ten and sixteen words in length.
The terms covered in this activity are a fault, dome, normal fault, lateral (strike-slip) fault, rift valley, fracture, fold, compression, tension, anticline, syncline, deformation, hanging wall, and plateau.
This document will become editable upon conversion to Microsoft Word using an Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Program. I included a full-page key with the answers in colored font.
I also have a stress, fault, and crust deformation crossword puzzle, study guide, and unit test available that complements this lesson.
This PDF file will become editable upon conversion to Microsoft Word using an Adobe Acrobat Reader app. It includes a two-page key with the answers in red font.
This resource complements the other activities relating to faults and stresses on the earth's crust in my store.
