Description

Students read a two page excerpt from European Imperialism's the Berlin Conference of 1885, answer 12 questions, and complete 2 comprehension tasks (one written and one visual). This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate.

Sample questions include:
--In your own words, identify the driving force of this document per the first paragraph.
--What purpose does including Article II serve in reference to the goal of the Berlin Conference?
--Why did the attendees agree to ban monopolies?
--Explain the role Europeans were supposed to have in the lives of what they call “native tribes.” Discuss how Europeans might have responded were the “natives” to resist such roles.
--Why is such an emphasis placed on neutrality in the Congo Basin?
