Description
Students will read an account of King Charles 1's execution from the English Civil War, answer 10 questions, analyze 3 images, and complete an extension task. This would be a good supplement to a unit on Early British History and Absolutism. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate.
Sample questions include:
--Inferring from the text and using prior knowledge, why did it cause problems that Charles had married a Roman-Catholic?
--Why didn't Charles cooperate during the trial?
--Explain Charles’ explanation of how he came to be executed in your own words.
--Why do you think Charles instructed the executioner to “stay for the sign?”
--List the 3 reasons people collected Charles’ blood after his execution. What is another reason someone may have collected his blood? If you had been present at his execution, for which of those reasons would you have collected his blood and why?
