The Fall of Constantinople Primary Source Analysis and Map Activity

Students will read about the sack of Constantinople and its effects on the Byzantine Empire at the hands of the Ottoman Empire and analyze it by answering 9 questions to get a first hand look at what happened in the city when it was razed and pillaged. This would be great for a sub! The answers are included where appropriate. ***UPDATED to include a political and physical geography map with 29 labels and tasks to complete.***

Sample questions include:
--Why do you think the Turks even killed the Byzantines that had sought shelter in churches? 
--What does “gave no quarter” mean?
--What fears or doubts about Christianity could have resulted from these actions? 
--What do you think the Turks gained from these actions?
