Description

Students will read and analyze excerpts on causes of the French Revolution from the perspective of the Third Estate and the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of Citizens by answering 37 questions. They will then analyze 5 images according to 3 prompts and complete 2 extension tasks. The sources are divided so this can work as a packet, jigsaw, or stations activity. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--In what way was the “misery” of the peasants exacerbated?
--Overall, what are countrymen “tyrannically enslaved” by and why?
--Explain the grievance about the administration of justice and why that might have been included.
--What is the “sale of offices” item attempting to reform, or counter?
--Describe at least two possible effects of eliminating useless offices.
--Rewrite the second paragraph in your own words to demonstrate understanding.
--Does Sieyes believe that the Third Estate is enough to sustain and maintain France, why or why not?
--If Sieyes’ excerpt had a hook, what would it be and why?
