Description

Students will analyze 10 primary source excerpts and 7 images from the Red Scare of the 1920s and McCarthyism (1950s Red Scare) by answering 35 questions. Eight sources are about the 1920s Red Scare/Palmer Raids and 9 are about the 1950s Red Scare. The answers are included and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
—What assumption does Palmer make about “Reds?”
—Does William White support or oppose the Palmer Raids? Cite evidence form the text to support your answer.
—Which quote does image C most directly reflect and why?
—Explain the meaning of Reagan’s reference to the fifth column.
—Identify what Robeson sees as the true fight in America in 1949.
—Rewrite Murrow’s 1954 excerpt in your own words to demonstrate understanding.
—Identify McCarthy’s main point from his 1953 excerpt.
—Summarize the message of image E and explain how it connects to the 1950s Red Scare.
