The Space Race DBQ

Students analyze 13 documents (5 images and 8 text), answer 13 historical context questions, complete a sorting chart, and write a DBQ essay to review the Cold War Space Race between America and the Soviet Union . There are 8 essay prompts for students to choose from (one allows for the class or teacher to make one of their own). The answers are included where appropriate and the initial analysis part would be great for a sub! ***Some of the sourcing is generalized so that students have to place it in the historical context/event themselves.***

Sample questions include:
--What phase of the Space Race is depicted in Document 2?
--What is America’s responsibility according to JFK in Document 4?
--How does Document 7 reflect the stage the Cold War is in?
--Inferring from the historical context, what was the prestige and military necessity Dryden was possibly referring to?
--Compare and contrast what LBJ sees as the impetus for action in the Soviet Union and America.
