Description
Students will read and analyze excerpts from President McKinley's request to Congress for a declaration of war against Spain in 1898 by answering 27 questions and analyzing 8 political cartoons/images. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!
Sample questions include:
--Provide an example from the historical context to support the end of the first paragraph.
--Explain what has had focus taken away from it, and why, due to these foreign issues.
--How does McKinley classify American actions to this point?
--In your own words, what does the government “owe” its citizens in Cuba?
--Could anything have added to the speech to make it more persuasive, why or why not?
--Did anything in the address detract from McKinley’s overarching goal, why or why not?
--Which images most align with your answer to #14 and why?
--Which part of the text most aligns with image B and why?
