The Teller and Platt Amendments Primary Source and Image Analysis

Students will read excerpts from the Teller Amendment and Platt Amendment as related to the Spanish-American War and early American relations with Cuba and answer 18 analysis questions. They will complete a newspaper headline activity to demonstrate an understanding of each document's historical context and they will analyze 9 images according to provided prompts. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub! 

Sample questions include:
--Provide a contextually appropriate definition for, “relinquish.”
--What does the United States promise in the fourth article? Why do you think that was a stipulation of the agreement?
--Identify the main point of Article 2.
--Rewrite section 4 in your own words to demonstrate understanding.
--How is Cuba ensuring the United States will be able to ensure its ability to follow through on the Platt Amendment?
