Description
Use the Theme Analysis Introduction MIni-Unit to provide your students with tools/strategies that they can use throughout their academic career and beyond.
Theme is an extremely challenging concept for our students to grasp. They struggle with both identifying a theme and explaining how the story supports their analysis.
The Theme Analysis Introduction MIni-Unit has been developed to provide you with the resources necessary to successfully introduce and teach your students how to effectively analyze a story to determine what theme/themes are implied. Once they are able to do so, it is much easier for them to explain their analysis in writing. The sequence of this unit is as follows:
√ introduce and define the concept of main idea, topic, and theme
√ introduce and discuss thematic concepts
√ introduce and discuss how to analyze a story
√ create a Theme Analysis Guide Exemplar
√ create a Theme Analysis ACED Planning & Response Guide
As you complete these activities, your students will use the Theme Analysis Guide to analyze a story of your choosing. Then they will use the Theme Analysis ACED Planning & Response Guide to write a short response explaining their analytical thinking. Once these activies have been completed, you will be able to provide your students with opportunities for deliberate focused practice using the additional resources provided combined with any story/passage you choose to work with.
