Description
Welcome! This listing features a full-page study guide about thermal energy and heat for middle school physical science students. This PDF file will become editable upon conversion to Microsoft Word using an Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Program. I provided a complete key with the answers in red font.
The study guide has four sections. The learning target for each section is listed below.
-
Students identify the phase change for each scenario, record the starting and final physical state, and indicate whether the process absorbs or releases thermal energy
-
Students solve two specific heat problems. I included both the straight line formula and the triangle method diagram, along with the text box that breaks down the meaning of the variables in the equation at the top of the page.
-
Students then identify whether the heat transfer example is conduction, convection, or radiation. I included the definitions of the three terms at the top of the page for an accommodation if your students need it.
-
Students interpret a generic blank phase diagram and answer six analysis questions pertaining to phases of matter, changes in phases of matter, comparison of the kinetic energy within particles of different phases, and the relationship between the temperature and the heat energy of a substance.
This resource complements the following activities about thermal energy in my store.
I appreciate your interest. I offer dozens of quality field-tested, innovative, practical and user-friendly products for different fields of science - biology, chemistry, field ecology, physical science, earth science, space science and human anatomy and physiology.
