Description
Practicing perfect makes perfect! The annual tissues and membranes chapter unit in my human anatomy and physiology class is loaded with new classification terms at the outset. It takes several rounds of practice for my students to develop the patterns and obtain confidence in remembering the types and sub-classifications of tissues. This activity helps my students learn and sort the varieties of tissues.
The student answer sheet is two pages in length. It is an incomplete outline that includes bulleted anatomical location clues under the blank headers and sub-headers. I provided a word bank on a separate page to assist students with the spelling and tissue choices. Students will find the right home (epithelial, connective, muscle, or nervous) for the following tissues – adipose, blood, bone, cardiac, cartilage, dense fibrous (collagenous), loose (areolar), pseudostratified columnar, reticular, simple columnal, simple cuboidal, simple squamous, skeletal, stratified columnar, stratified cuboidal, stratified squamous (keratinized), stratified squamous (non-keratinized), transitional, and visceral. Students will also outline the three sub-classifications of cartilage (fibro, hyaline, and elastic).
I included a key with the answers in bold, red font. Teachers will be able to edit this document upon converting the PDF to Microsoft Word using an Adobe Acrobat Reader DC app.
