Description
If you are looking for a fun way to engage students while they learn a little about human anatomy/biology/physiology, this is a great activity to do it.
This is the one lesson that I do that I can always guarantee all of my students participate in! This download includes a PowerPoint Presentation (or optional Google Slide Presentation) that reviews 15 features or actions that can only be performed by a small percentage of the population. I included items that I knew students would have to attempt or look in to in order to keep it interesting and engaging. Each slide presents a question on a unique trait and then gives some basic science behind it as well as general statistics on its rarity.
Topics include: rolling your tongue, dimples, wiggling your ears, raising one eyebrow, palm creases, missing tendons, touching your tongue to your nose/elbow, hitchhikers thumb, flaring your nostrils, clasping your hands, thumbprints and toe length.
I used this activity as a part of my HOSA club and it was one of our favorite meetings to date! Can also be used as a part of units on genetics or human growth and development, or in any class where biology and/or anatomy is taught!

Although I have not used the powerpoint yet in my classes, I am very excited to include it in my lesson. It looks like something that will get the students interested in the body and the unique things we may or may not have in common.

Used as an end of year celebration of each student's special traits!

How Unique are You?
Fun activity to do with students as fun facts or as an introduction to a unit (genetics, human growth through the lifespan, medical math). Students were engaged and had fun trying everything out and comparing their traits to others.
