Description

White Sands National Park Storyline is the first in a series of NGSS aligned earth science storylines centered around the national parks. This mini-storyline works great as a transition from traditional teaching methods to an NGSS classroom.

NGSS Standards:

MS.ESS2.1 - Develop a model to describe the cycling of Earth's materials and the flow of energy that drives this process.

MS.ESS2.2 - Construct an explanation based on evidence for how geoscience has changed Earth's surface at varying time and spatial scales.

HS.ESS2.1 - Develop a model to illustrate how Earth's internal and surface processes operate at different spatial and temporal scales to form continental and ocean-floor features.

Based on the phenomenon surrounding the formation of the dunes at White Sands National Park, students will develop driving questions that guide their learning. Activities included in this storyline will help students discover the formation of minerals, properties of minerals, constructive/destructive forces that affect the minerals and more.

 This complete storyline includes:

  • Teacher guide with daily notes
  • Student notes
  • Lab activities
  • Claim, evidence, reasoning response
  • Storyline review
  • Quiz
  • Summative assessment
  • Answer keys
  • Free email support
