1984 Current Events Activity

1984 is as relevant as ever. To help students make real-world connections to the novel, many teachers assign current events. This current events activity is designed to help students connect their world with Winston's. There is no prep required on the teacher's part. This assignment helps students determine what makes a resource credible while analyzing the text. It can be assigned in virtual/remote classrooms or face-to-face classrooms.

In addition to having students make connections through writing, students can also complete the peer review activity. When paired with the Socratic seminar activity, students will be able to confidently contribute to discussions about 1984 and have a deep understanding of the relevance and importance of the novel.
