Description
Ancient History – Bingo – Instructions
Materials:
- 2 bingo cards are provided, each with various terms from ancient history
- Bingo Card #1 has slightly easier, more well-known terms, while Bingo Card #2 has some that might be more difficult or less known to students
- Resource #1 contains both the terms and definitions for each bingo card (Option 1A below)
- Resource #2 contains just the definitions (Options 1B & 2 below)
Optional materials:
To re-use these bingo cards multiple times without making a whole class set of copies, you can purchase plastic protection sheets to cover them. Students can write on them using a dry-erase marker. This way, they can easily erase their bingo cards to make any changes or restart them.
There are a few recommended ways that these bingo cards can be used
For each bingo card, there is a list of the terms and definitions (Resources #1 and #2). Each term is assigned its own letter. You can use the following website to pick letters at random. This website contains several ways to select these letters – CLICK HERE!
Option 1: Teacher-Led Option
Using the link above, select a random letter. Next, the instructor can…
A) Read both the term and definition (Resource #1) and have students find it on their bingo card
B) ONLY read the definition to students (Resource #2). Students will then need to figure out which vocabulary word applies and mark the letter on their bingo card.
Option 2: Student-Led Option
- Students are given a bingo card and Resource #2, with just definitions. Using Resource #2, students can determine where each letter goes and place it on their bingo cards. This can be done independently or in groups.
- Depending on how long you want this activity to take, you can structure it in a few ways…
A) Have students try to get 1 Bingo
B) Have students try to get 2 or 3 Bingos
C) Have students try to get as many boxes as they can. The student or group with the most correct letters on their bingo card wins!
