Description

Design your own CITY. In this Math PBL activity, students will design their own city according to the requirements.

They will calculate the area and perimeter of each of their city zones. They must have roads leading to each place and everything must fit inside the border of their city. They will also create their city name and design their city's sign.

*DIFFERENTIATED*

Higher difficulty level:

*Your city zones must also have shapes other than squares and rectangles: you must include at least 2 parallelograms, 2 rhombuses, 2 trapezoids, and 2 triangles.

*Calculate the area of the whole map and then the percent of the whole map which is used by each zone, including roads, green spaces, etc. (round it to 2 decimal places).

The grid paper for creating a city map (3 different versions), pictures of buildings and city zones for labeling, and grading rubric are included.

What is wonderful about it?

They can work at their own pace and don't even realize they are learning.

Give students more control over their learning by letting them make their own decisions. Students will LOVE designing their own City.
