This resource contains five biographies on Enlightenment thinkers and their ideas about the nature of government. The collection includes Niccolò Machiavelli, Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Charles de Montesquieu, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau.
The biographies can be either printed directly OR readily converted to digital activities using Google Slides.
Each biography also includes a series of questions based on the reading.
In using this in my own class room, students are encouraged to:
1. Number the paragraphs
2. Read the biography
3. Highlight answers in the reading
4. Use complete sentences.
5. Identify the paragraph where they find the answer
The answer key demonstrates these steps. Academic and content vocabulary words and definitions are included for each biography.
You might also consider a mini-unit I have uploaded on Theories of Government. This unit includes a PowerPoint and graphic organizer, biographies on the philosophers discussed, and two types of assessments.
