Description
Hear ye! Hear ye! Read all about it!
This unit contains everything your students need to know about the coming of the American Revolution.
The wealth of resources includes the following:
- A PowerPoint that guides students through the events that culminated in the first battles of the American Revolution. The presentation addresses the various revenue acts passed by Parliament during the 1760s and 1770s - including the reasons why the British believed that such acts were necessary - recounts both the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party, and concludes with the first shots at Lexington and Concord.
- Two political cartoons, Join, or Die by Benjamin Franklin and The Repeal, or the Funeral of Miss Ame-Stamp by Benjamin Wilson. Each cartoon includes handouts with introductory paragraphs, graphic organizers to assist students in analyzing the cartoons, and analysis questions.
- A graphic organizer on The Acts of Parliament, emphasizing the different revenue acts passed to raise money following the French and Indian War.
- A PowerPoint provides students with an introduction to the arguments presented in Common Sense.
- Four biographies on figures relating to American independence: Thomas Paine, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson. Each biography includes strategies to assist with comprehension, a series of questions based on the reading, and academic and content vocabulary words and definitions.
- A paraphrased version of the Declaration of Independence that includes a series of questions based on the document.
- A culminating project in which students will work in groups and synthesize the information they have learned to create a Colonial Newspaper. The project includes guidelines, a scoring rubric, and a critique sheet by which students to assess their own performance as well as those of their group members.
Purchased separately, these resources would total 27.25; I am offering them as a bundle for $21. I use these resources in my own class room - this has proven to be such a successful unit! I am certain you will find this unit a valuable addition to your curriculum.
