New and improved! Updated for Google Slides™. Looking for an active way to teach Common Sense by Thomas Paine? There are 2 parts to this lesson. You can use one or both - you choose! First students read a 1 page short background summary of Common Sense. Then students analyze quotes from Common Sense that you can post around the classroom or in stations. There are 10 placard quotes - you can use all of them, or pick and choose which ones you like best. Students answer questions that are asked at the bottom of each quote on notebook paper.

Finally, students create a "visual summary" of what they learned. Students are given a blank "book" visual and they create a
- Symbol/picture of the meaning of Common Sense
- 2 reviews of Common Sense from the perspective of a loyalist and a patriot
- A reaction to reading Common Sense by King George III and George Washington
- Summarize 3 of Thomas Paine's ideas in their own words.
All of this is drawn on the "book" included in this purchase.
They enjoy creating the loyalist and patriot perspectives. Perfect for an interactive notebook!
