Description

Students will read and analyze 2 points of view from 1845 on the impact of immigrants on America by answering 40 questions (some are compare and contrast/overarching questions). They will also analyze 4 political cartoons according to 3 prompts (some are from a bit later than the texts but reflect similar sentiments). The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--Explain the purpose or relevance of the reference to George Washington.
--Summarize the threat facing America at this time.
--In your own words, what does the NAP believe has been “incautiously granted” and what has been the effect of that?
--On what grounds does the NAP think a civil war could be in America’s future?
--Why is Nichols’ reference to his ancestors relevant?
--Identify the main point of the 3rd paragraph.
--Who is the “hero” in the 7th paragraph? Using prior knowledge, give another example of someone and his/her contribution which would fit in that section.
--What is the NAP’s strongest argument against immigration and why?
--Which of the NAP’s points does Nichols most effectively counter and why?
--Where were the texts most contradictory to each other and why?
