Description

Students will read and analyze excerpts from the Indian Removal Act of 1830, President Jackson's address on the Act, and excerpts from Chief John Ross in 1836 by defining 8 words and answering 15 questions. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--How could the phrase “nation of Indians” be interpreted for this act’s constitutionality to be questioned?
--Explain how this was going to affect the interactions between the federal government and Native Americans going forward.
--Under what conditions would the land be returned to the United States?
--Identify the main point of the final paragraph from the Indian Removal Act excerpt.
--Citing evidence from the text, did Ross support the New Echota treaty, and why?
--Explain what is implied in the third paragraph.
