Description
This listing features two one-page tables carefully designed to assist middle school life science or high school biology students practice their classification skills on the eight major phyla of invertebrates in Kingdom Animalia.
In the first activity, students will match the letter assigned to the phylum name at the top of the page with the listed organism in the three columns below. There are fifty-three different invertebrates for students to classify. I posted a few clues next to each phylum name in the right margin.
In the second activity, students will fill in three columns-worth of information for each of the eight listed major phyla of invertebrates. Their first quest is to write in the key features, common description, and defense mechanism. Their second quest is to identify the dominant symmetry of the animals in the respective phyla. Their last quest is to indicate whether the animals have a coelom (body cavity) by writing “yes”, “no”, or “partial.” I included an additional page that alphabetically lists the key features, common descriptions, and defense mechanisms as an answer bank for students who may need the accommodation.
I provided a complete key with the answers in bold red font for each table.
This PDF file will become editable upon conversion to Microsoft Word using Adobe Acrobat.
