Description
Is it just me or does anyone else struggle with teaching Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs? After years of frustration trying to find a way for my students to connect the pyramid to actual real life concepts I came up with this activity.
Students will be in a scenario where they are given 1 million dollars to survive one month on a deserted island alone. They are given 40 various items to thens choose 15 to bring along. After picking their items, they will match their choices with a level on Maslow's Hierarchy.
I've had a lot of success with this activity and it actually generated a lot of great discussion as well.

Wow! This lesson couldn't have been more perfect and creative for Maslow's hierarchy. The "survival" scenario grabbed their engagement and made teaching this concept so much easier!
