Project: Illustrating the Articles (distance learning option)

This project has everything your students need to know about the main ideas behind each article of the United States Constitution!

The resource includes a PowerPoint that presents each article of the Constitution in student-friendly terms. After explaining that the Constitution is divided into articles, sections, and paragraphs, the presentation leads students through each of the articles, allowing multiple opportunities for teachers to provide real-life examples.

The PowerPoint is paired with a graphic organizer that allows students to write down the main ideas behind each article (a completed version is included). Once the presentation is complete, viola! Students have a user-friendly reference sheet.

Students will then use the reference sheet (and any other resource that might be provided by the instructor) to construct a poster based on the Constitution. The guidelines lead students through step-by-step.

I have also created a project rubric for teachers to assess completed posters. These rubrics can be distributed to the students ahead of time to use as a "checklist" and ensure that their work meets standards.

For teachers who so desire, the presentation and graphic organizer also include the option of covering the main ideas behind the Preamble; this can readily be added as a section to the poster. Finally, for students averse to drawing, the PowerPoint includes an alternative assessment.

The PowerPoint is saved in Office 97-2003. The graphic organizer, guidelines, and rubric have been uploaded as PDF files.
