Market Revolution DBQ

Students analyze 16 documents (10 text based, 1 chart, and 4 visual), answer 16 historical context questions, complete a sorting chart, and write a DBQ essay to review the Market Revolution. There are 8 essay prompts for students to choose from (one allows for the class or teacher to make one of their own). The answers are included where appropriate and the initial analysis part would be great for a sub! ***Some of the sourcing is generalized so that students have to place it in the historical context/event themselves.***

Sample questions include:
--Explain Calhoun’s perception of the relationship between states and the federal government per Document 2
--Which region benefitted the most from what is depicted in Document 4 and why?
--Does Document 7 represent a positive or negative effect of the Market Revolution and why? Provide a description of the same topic but from the opposite point of view.
--Compare and contrast the tone and context of Documents 9 and 10. What could account for the differences between them?
--Would Document 11 lead to increased unity or division and why?
--Citing from the historical record, what are 3 items that can support Monroe’s claim that Americans were the most “enlightened” as per Document 13?
