Description

n the next phase of the unit, we have defined what civilization is. Now, we will introduce a few of the cultural regions of North America. While discussing these civilizations, I remind the students that their summative project will be creating a website on a civilization of their choosing, hopefully, they can start thinking which one to pick over the next few lessons.

Bellwork:Read the definition of adapt above. Think of a time in your life when you’ve had to adapt to a new situation. If you are having trouble, think of a time when you will have to adapt in the future.

Instruction: We will be looking at two different groups of Native Americans, the Great Plains, and the Southwestern Natives and examining what types of adaptations they made to their environments. An example of an adaptation we have already seen is with the Iroquois. The Iroquois lived in forests, so, they adapted to their environment by building homes out of wood.

Exit Ticket: Out of these two Native American groups, which one would you live with, and why.
