Use the tactile Nets of 3D figures to allow students to explore finding surface area and volume.

Students can cut out the shapes, fold, shade bases and sides, the possibility to explore are many. This activity will give students a concrete understanding of surface area and volume of the 3D shapes.

This activity includes the 3D nets for the following figures on grid paper:

Cube, Rectangular Prism, Triangular Prism, Rectangular Pyramid, Triangular Pyramid, and Cylinder.

The nets can be used to explain the formulas in 8th grade.
