Pendleton Civil Service Reform Act Primary Source and Image Analysis Activity

Students will read and analyze excerpts from the Pendleton Act of 1883 by answering 18 questions. They will also analyze 6 political cartoons according to 4 questions/prompts. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub! 

Sample questions include:
--Was it necessary to specify that multiple political parties were represented on the commission, why or why not?
--Explain the relevance of the census in filling job openings.
--In what way(s) can the responsibility of the chief examiner be considered a reform effort?
--Rewrite the 6th paragraph in your own words to demonstrate understanding.
--Can this be considered a turning point of any kind in the Gilded Age, why or why not?
