Description
Students read 7 quotes about different issues and events from the Progressive Era, analyze 4 images, and respond to 18 questions and creative tasks. Sample topics for the quotes include Teddy Roosevelt and conservation, muckraking, women's suffrage, the Square Deal, and more! Some of the creative tasks include writing quotes from Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson, advertisements, museum exhibits, letters to the editor, and more! This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate.
Sample questions include:
--According to President Roosevelt, how could someone end up being a force for evil? How could that be avoided?
--Why do you think Steffens goes so far as to declare it treason?
--Inferring from the historical context, how is Marie Howe restricted, and how might she become “whole?”
--How is that in contrast with how Teddy Roosevelt felt about conservation?
--Put this quote in the historical context. Why was America going into Mexico a contentious issue at the time? Had you been a politician at the time, would you have supported such action, why or why not?
