Incorporate the Broadway smash hit musical Hamilton in your classroom!
"Right Hand Man" describes the struggles George Washington faces as commander of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. I used this song and lyric sheet to further explain the events of the Battle of Long Island and to demonstrate the colonial view of George Washington. I added my own guiding questions to the analysis column but feel free to change them and add your own!
For my classroom, I found a clean version of the song on YouTube and had the students listen first while following along on the lyrics sheet. I played the song a second time so they could highlight/underline words they didn't know and lines they thought were important. Then they worked with a partner on the analysis column and at the end we shared as a class.
