Description

Students will read and analyze two points of view on whether or not there should be a Bill of Rights in the Constitution (Patrick Henry and Alexander Hamilton in 1788) by answering 35 questions. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--Inferring from the historical context, why might Henry have said a Bill of Rights is more important now than ever before?
--Where does Henry see the proposed governments as falling short of what Americans are due/deserve?
--What does Henry acknowledge about an argument of other side of this debate? Why wasn’t that point sufficient for him?
--Write a contextually appropriate synonym, or definition, for “intemperate.”
--Why doesn’t Hamilton see a Bill of Rights being applicable to American citizens?
--Explain the role public opinion plays in this debate per Hamilton.
--What is Henry’s strongest argument for a Bill of Rights and why?
--What is Hamilton’s strongest argument against a Bill of Rights and why?
--If you could give each text your own title what would you choose and why?
