The New Deal VIDEO & LESSON | Shark Tank-Like Engaging Activity!

This is lesson and episode focuses on the amazing story of FDR's New Deal in his transformative first 100 days. The episode covers the election of 1932, President Roosevelt's philosophy- how the New Deal helped to not just combat the economic depression but the spiritual depression affecting Americans, his critics, and the legacy of the New Deal on America today.

The resources that go with it include an interactive notesheet that gets students to make predictions, analyze a photograph, define terms, and complete a cause and effect chart. Then the extension lesson is one of my favorites! It's a 'Shark-Tank-Like' activity where students (in groups preferably but can be individual) evaluate 8 New Deal programs, decide one to advocate for, one to scrap or get rid of (this can be written or presented or both), and then the best part; students get to create their own New Deal program! A support sheet helps guide them by picking a specific group or people, consider the struggles they are going through, the causes of those problems, and then designing a program to help those people! They write an elevator pitch for their program that could be presented or just turned in. History will come alive with this one! And there are answer keys for everything!
