Description
Students will read about America's role in helping Greece and Turkey recover and rebuild after World War 2 (WWII, WW2) as per the Truman Doctrine, define a variety of academic terms, write summaries from selections of the text, and respond 25 questions and creative tasks. The answers are included where appropriate and this would work for a sub!
Sample questions include:
--Why did Greece ask America for assistance and why was that assistance deemed imperative?
--Identify the show of good faith put forth by the Greek Government, implying that Western efforts wouldn't be squandered.
--What parallel was drawn between Greece’s desires and the United States, which Truman hoped would push Americans to sympathize with Greeks?
--What were the “implications involved” for America should it commit to this assistance and why did Truman make a point of acknowledging them?
--How was the security of the United States affected by what happens in countries such as Greece and Turkey?
--Compare and contrast the ways of life Truman said people are presented with.
--How did Truman justify requesting the authorization of such a large financial commitment?
