The Unification of Germany Point of View Analysis

Students will read and analyze excerpts from 3 sources on early German nationalism and German unification by answering 20 questions and completing an extension task. They will also analyze how 3 images relate to the sources. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub! The excerpts are from the Karlsbad Decrees, The War of Liberation (Ernst Moritz Arndt), and The Call for German Unity (Heinrich von Gagern).

Sample questions include:
--Why might Arndt have described these events and sentiments as a “holy zeal?”
--How will Germans come together and what should it result in?
--Rewrite the second paragraph in your own words to demonstrate understanding.
--Citing evidence from the text, where is Gagern most nationalistic?
--What impact will there be on the press and publications by the Karlsbad Decrees?
--Is this source for or against nationalism and unification and why? 
--Which point made, in which source, makes the most convincing case for nationalism/unification and why? Could anything be added to the other source to make it stronger, why or why not?
