Description
Have you ever looked at your students' spelling lists and wondered "Who thought these up?" Instead of random words that are seldom used in authentic writing, these real-world word spelling lists will be put to work as students do various writing tasks all year. They include common themes like family members, number words, states, popular stores and restaurants. This packet includes 36 weeks of word lists and practice activities to take you all the way through the school year year. Students will be given opportunities to match their spelling words to pictures and word clues, organize them alphabetically, and write a paragraph where they can include some of that week's words. Because kinesthetic practice helps solidify the order of the letters for students, each week they will also be given the chance to use sign language to finger spell their words. If you already have a spelling book you are required to use, these weekly activities work just as well in a literacy center or word-work station. The packet includes:
- A list of 36 weekly spelling themes
- Instructions/suggestions for use
- 4 practice sheets for each that can be run off back-to-back
- A detailed answer key
- An 8.5" x 11" American Sign Language Alphabet chart
- Blackline masters for 3 other partner activities that can be used with all themes
