World War II First Nations Soldiers YouTube Teaching Resource

This resource is designed to go with the FREE History Detective YouTube episode World War II First Nations Soldiers: Northern Territory Special Reconnaissance Unit.

The video explores the history of the First Nations soldiers during World War II in particular the Northern Territory Special Reconnaissance Unit. The resource is aligned to the Year 10 Australian Curriculum, but can be used to look at how minority groups contributed to the war.

The resource can be used both in classroom lessons and online teaching. The resource goes through pre-listening vocabulary, includes listening comprehension questions, before honing in on the concept of implicit and explicit source analysis skills. There is also a further research activity included.

The worksheet has reflection questions and lyrical analysis of the song Who Decides the Heroes which was written exclusively for the topic, and an activity for further research.
