Description
Bring the major battles of the Revolutionary War to life with Living Paintings! Working in groups, students will re-create a scene from the battle using a famous painting. The lesson begins with a warm up activity, a hidden picture inquiry. The Picture inquiry reveals pieces of a painting one at a time and students question, analyze and hypothesize it’s content and meaning. Next, students will be assigned to groups and given a painting/battle to research to bring to life. Groups will follow the Groupwork Activity handout to prepare for their presentation. Each student has a role to play in the Living Painting: Docent, Historian, Script Writer and Graphic Artist. At the presentation time, each painting will be displayed on a screen or wall space. The Docent introduces the painting to the “visitors” and provides background information. Once the introduction is complete, the Docent activates the animate button. This signals the other group members to come to life and tell the story of the battle before refreezing back into the portrait.
