Texas Colonization Primary Source Analysis

Students will read an account of the colonization of Texas, how settlers were enticed to move to Texas in the 1820s, and a comparison of life in Stephen Austin and Green DeWitt's colonies. They will then answer 13 analysis questions, complete a creative task, and create a map based on the reading. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub! 

Sample questions include: 
--Identify 3 ways the reality in Texas differed from Robertson’s presentation.
--Do you think Robertson would have been successful in recruiting settlers if he had made an honest presentation about Texas? Why or why not?
--Why do you think the men, women, and children each had a different reaction to being among the first few batches of settlers?
--Compare and contrast the colonies of DeWitt and Austin. What primarily accounted for those differences?
--What role did San Felipe play in the development of Texas?
