Students will read a primary source on the Battle of Marathon between Ancient Greece and Persia in 490BC and answer 12 questions of varying levels of difficulty. Then will they respond to 3 writing prompts/creative activities while balancing historical accuracy, creativity, and their opinions. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate!

Sample questions include:
--Explain why the victory at Marathon was monumental for both Greece and Persia.
--Explain in your own words how Miltiades persuaded Callimachus to vote to engage in battle.
--Why might the Persians be referred to as barbarians? How would the Persians have referred to the Greeks?
--Why does this battle matter today?
--Phidippides likely knew his end was near when he reached Athens. To whom do you think he told the news, what you think he said to convey the Greek victory over the Persians, what was the reaction of the person who received the news?
