Description
Students will read two accounts of the events of the Hungarian Revolution (Hungarian Uprising) of 1956 and will respond to 30 questions/tasks to demonstrate an understanding of the text. Lastly The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!
Sample questions include:
--What is the symbolic start of the Hungarian Revolution?
--Inferring from prior knowledge, what might have been one of the “Soviet emblems” that were torn down.
--Provide a contextually appropriate definition, or synonym, for “ills.”
--Explain two ways the use of Lenin’s image might have been received in Moscow.
--What purpose might have been served by playing the national anthem on repeat?
--Which countries might Nagy have hoped would answer the appeal for help?
--Identify what the Soviet goal likely was in the paragraph starting with, “the situation was the same everywhere.”
--Citing evidence from the text, did the Hungarians support Kadar as their leader?
--Identify a similarity and a difference between the two accounts.
